Every once and a while, we take a break from our regular jobs to go out and help the hacker community. This weekend, we went down to the Juniper Aspiration Dome in Sunnyvale for the Los Altos Hacks III hackathon. Nearly 300 high school students gathered together to hack on projects ranging from face recognition security devices to a litter collection community app called “Finders Sweepers.”
Bugcrowd Principal Engineer, Damien Radford, gave a great presentation with a demo on how to scrape Bugcrowd programs and the VRT to build an Amazon Alexa skill called “security magic 8 ball,” that gives you ideas on what to hack.
On Sunday, Senior Community Manager, Sam Houston and the team judged the security category and we awarded a team of three who built “Bug Browser,” a Bugcrowd based chat skill for Alexa that gives you latest security news and information about Bugcrowd programs.
Congrats to team Bug Browser at @losaltoshacks! They win Alexa Echo Spots for their Bugcrowd Alexa Skill! Keep on hacking pic.twitter.com/6PVc80UgWY

All in all, it was a great weekend!
We met some really cool kids who are excited about hacking on Bugcrowd’s API, and we had a great time talking about best practices with the next generation of security researchers. Keep on hacking!
