TX Group Launches Public Bug Bounty Program with Bugcrowd

20 Minuten Newspaper Opens Platform to Test and Strengthen Existing Cybersecurity Measures

SAN FRANCISCO – March 30, 2021 – Bugcrowd, the crowdsourced cybersecurity platform, today announced TX Group, a network of digital platforms in Switzerland, has launched a public Bug Bounty program for its 20 Minuten digital platform with Bugcrowd. This strategic investment strengthens the organization’s approach to identifying vulnerabilities in its IT systems by allowing external security researchers and ethical hackers to competitively search and find security flaws in its digital platform.

As the news outlet with the broadest reach in Switzerland, 20 Minuten sets exacting standards for its platform security and stability. During the rebrand of its online presence in Spring 2020, the organization sought to ensure that cybersecurity was built in at every stage.

“With this step, TX Group is rising to be a trailblazer in the realm of cybersecurity in Switzerland,” said Andreas Schneider, Group CISO of the TX Group. “Such programs not only improve our cybersecurity but also create trust as well as transparency and thus make an important contribution to the digital transformation of TX Group. 20 Minuten is just the beginning. This year we will make additional Bug Bounty programs available to the public and thus further increase our digital trustworthiness.”

Around 850 ethical hackers and security researchers have spent more than a year searching for security vulnerabilities as part of a private Bugcrowd Bug Bounty program. TX Group is now making the program publicly accessible to all security researchers and hackers as part of their effort to build Switzerland’s most secure news platform.

“Like boxers, we train every day with the world’s best sparring partners,” said Marco Di Bernardo, CTO of 20 Minuten. “They relentlessly expose our weaknesses and show us where we need to improve. This gives us a natural resilience against many threats, and that’s why the Bug Bounty program is one of the cornerstones of our cybersecurity strategy.”

Working with Bugcrowd, TX Group will have access to the expertise of the most uniquely skilled ethical hackers and security researchers in the world. Those who participate in the program will be eligible to receive a “bounty” cash reward with payments varying depending on the level of security risk discovered.

“Proactive cybersecurity measures such as Bug Bounty programs are vital for organizations as they seek to navigate today’s hyperconnected environment safely,” said James Clegg, Managing Director, EMEA, Bugcrowd. “New threats are constantly emerging, and TX Group is taking important action to protect 20 Minuten’s platform and users through this layered approach.”
